Washington: President Joe Biden has addressed the recent clashes between Pakistan and Iran, stating that the events involving Pakistan highlight Iran’s increased influence in the region, a development not well-received.
During a brief White House conversation, President Biden emphasized that Iran is not particularly favored in the region, expressing the desire to prevent further escalation of tensions in South Asia.
“We don’t know the trajectory of the Iran-Pakistan issue, but we’re actively engaged in addressing it,” Biden remarked.
A statement from the White House revealed that discussions on the growing tension between Pakistan and Iran took place on Thursday.
John Kirby, the spokesperson, urged both countries to refrain from escalating tensions after the recent airstrikes, emphasizing the United States’ disapproval of heightened confrontations.
Kirby noted ongoing communication with Pakistani counterparts and authorities to address the situation.
China, expressing concern over the Pakistan-Iran actions, offered to mediate and normalize relations between the two nations. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, in a routine press conference, called for restraint, tolerance, and expressed China’s readiness to play a constructive role in improving the situation if desired by both parties.
Russia and Afghanistan have also advised restraint and the avoidance of aggression by both Pakistan and Iran.
