A city council member in Porto Alegre, Brazil, surprised many by utilizing ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, to draft legislation aimed at preventing extra charges for replacing water meters.
Romero Rocero revealed this unconventional approach to crafting the law, though he didn’t disclose how it was prepared when presented to the 35-member city council in October. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that public interest projects aren’t unfairly dismissed solely because AI technology was involved in their creation.
This isn’t an isolated case; previously, a member of the US House of Representatives also employed ChatGPT to draft a bill, though it is yet to be passed.
