
Voting is currently underway in the National and Provincial Assemblies for 30 Senate seats in Islamabad. Among the 59 candidates vying for these seats, 18 have already been elected without opposition.
Notably, all 11 candidates from the Balochistan Assembly secured their positions unopposed.
Members of the National and Provincial Assembly are participating in today’s voting to fill the 30 vacant Senate seats, each for a term of 6 years. The voting window extends from 9 am to 4 pm.
In Islamabad, there is competition for both General and Technocrat seats, with two candidates contending. Specifically, Ishaq Dar of PML-N will go up against Raja Ansar Mehmood of the Sunni Ittehad Council for the Technocrat seat. Meanwhile, there are four candidates vying for one Technocrat and one General seat in Islamabad, including Rana Mahmoodul Hasan from the People’s Party and Farzand Ali Shah from the Sunni Ittehad Council.
In Punjab Assembly, candidates have been elected unopposed for 7 General seats. Additionally, there are 4 candidates for Women seats, 3 for Technocrat and Ulama seats, and 2 for the Minority seat.
Sindh has 11 candidates for General seats, 3 for Women seats, 4 for Technocrat seats, and 2 for Minority seats. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there are 16 candidates for General seats, 4 for Women seats, and 6 competing for Ulama and Technocrat seats.
Ballot papers for the Senate elections are color-coded: White for General seats, green for Technocrat seats, pink for Women seats, and yellow for Minority seats.
