
President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the necessity of focusing on the development of Pakistan’s gems and jewelry sector, stressing that exporting value-added products could significantly contribute to the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
During a meeting held at the President’s House to discuss the sector’s development, President Zardari underscored the importance of better marketing and promotion for Pakistan’s precious stone products to penetrate the global market. He advocated for attracting foreign investment in the gems and jewelry industry, emphasizing its potential for generating employment opportunities for the local populace. Additionally, President Zardari highlighted the importance of diversifying and promoting industries within the gems and jewelry sector, emphasizing the need for training and skilling local manpower. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Gems and Jewelry Development Company, along with senior government officials, participated in the meeting. Chaudhry briefed the attendees on the strategic plan for the sector’s development, outlining various challenges and opportunities.
Furthermore, during the meeting at the President’s House, the British High Commissioner in Pakistan engaged in discussions on bilateral matters of significance with President Zardari. Stressing the need to bolster trade and economic ties between Pakistan and the UK, the High Commissioner highlighted the strengthening of relations through high-level engagements and public diplomacy efforts. President Zardari, addressing the economic situation of the country, prioritized economic stability, emphasizing the creation of employment opportunities and poverty alleviation. He also acknowledged climate change as a pressing challenge for Pakistan. Additionally, President Zardari conveyed his best wishes to the King of Great Britain, Charles Swimme, and the Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton. Jane Marriott extended congratulations to President Zardari on assuming office.
