In the Lahore High Court, a hearing took place concerning the request of former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s wife, Qaisara Elahi, to meet him while he is in jail.
Justice Raheel Kamran Shaikh presided over the hearing and issued a notice to the Additional Chief Secretary Home. In response to the request, Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh emphasized that the state has the authority to detain individuals, and it is the state’s law to permit relatives to meet. He also questioned the Punjab government’s lawyer about the potential threat to the state from allowing a meeting between husband and wife.
The Additional Advocate General Punjab responded by stating that the petitioner should make a formal application and provide a list of relatives, which they haven’t done yet. In reply, the learned judge reminded them that the petitioner is Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s wife, and the Chief Secretary will be responsible for deciding whom to send the application to. The Additional Advocate General Punjab claimed they lack the authority in this matter. Justice Raheel Kamran Shaikh then decided to issue another notice for the following day. It is essential to note that Qaisara Elahi approached the High Court seeking permission to meet her husband in jail.
