
In a recent discussion on financial and governance reforms organized by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and the World Bank in Islamabad, Matthew Varghese, the Regional Director of the World Bank for South Asia, highlighted Pakistan’s pressing economic challenges.
He emphasized the necessity of advancing reform efforts to address the current economic crisis. Varghese pointed out that Pakistan’s expenditures exceed its income, leading to a rise in both domestic and foreign debts. Among the attendees were Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haq, Vice-Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Dr. Durnayab, Joint Director at PID, and other distinguished speakers.
