Prior to President Dr. Arif Alvi’s tweet concerning amendments to the Official Secrets Act and the Army Act, an alleged conversation with Secretary Waqar Ahmed has been brought to attention.
As per sources from the President’s House, during a conversation with his secretary, the President acknowledged that the secretary bore no responsibility for the bill’s passage. Nonetheless, he mentioned being under significant party pressure.
Reportedly, files submitted by the Secretary to the President were not returned. Subsequently, at 1:45 PM on Sunday, Dr. Arif Alvi tweeted his reservations regarding the bill’s approval.
Following the tweet, the ‘Internal Wing’ of the President’s House forwarded both bills to the Prime Minister’s Office by 5:00 PM. Previously, the President had dispatched the bills in a sealed envelope from his chamber to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Meanwhile, the ousted Secretary Waqar Ahmed has penned a letter to the President expressing concerns about his compelled resignation and the accusations against him.
In the letter, Waqar Ahmed articulated that he neither received any directives from the President nor had the files been returned. He questioned the fairness of being penalized for actions he didn’t commit, emphasizing that he hadn’t engaged in any wrongful, unconstitutional, or illegal activities. He requested the withdrawal of his resignation order.
