The Senate’s farewell session, chaired by Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi, saw Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami reflecting on his political journey, lamenting his inability to fulfill financial rights for the province, halt the Army Chief’s extension, pass laws for public hangings of rape convicts, and confront various mafias despite threats. He reiterated his commitment to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case, pledging ongoing efforts for her return to Pakistan.
Senator Dar, the Senate’s Leader, reiterated their extensive endeavors to bring Dr. Aafia back, detailing personal meetings with American officials and appeals to Prime Minister Sharif. He emphasized that upon forming the cabinet, efforts would prioritize her repatriation through legal and diplomatic channels. Mushtaq Ahmad outlined four potential avenues for Dr. Aafia’s return, including serving her sentence in Pakistan. The meeting concluded with adjournment till Friday.
