The interim government in Islamabad has imposed a ban on issuing unnecessary supplementary grants. This decision aims to uphold an austerity policy until the formation of the newly elected government.
A strategic plan has been developed to guide the utilization of public funds for the current fiscal year.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, funds will only be released in cases of natural disasters or emergencies. Budget allocations will not be directed towards undisclosed projects or other unspecified purposes. Additionally, any requests for extra supplementary grants will require proper justification, and the Principal Accounts Officer of the relevant ministry will need to provide reasoning.
In related news, a recent meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a grant of 42.5 billion for the upcoming general elections.
The Finance Ministry has stated that the budget division will thoroughly review any requests for additional funds. The approval of such funds from both the Cabinet and the ECC is now a mandatory requirement.
It’s worth recalling that in a recent energy-focused meeting, the interim Prime Minister, Anwar Haq Kakar, emphasized the importance of minimizing expenses related to the Prime Minister’s House.
