In Islamabad, the Supreme Court has affirmed the convictions of military officials involved in a conspiracy to topple the government led by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
The Supreme Court has rejected the appeals against the sentences of Colonel (retired) Azad Minhas and Colonel (retired) Inayatullah.
Inayatullah was sentenced to four years of hard labor and dismissal, while Azad Minhas received a two-year imprisonment along with dismissal by the Field Court Martial. Both ex-army officers were charged in 1995 for their involvement in a plot to overthrow Benazir Bhutto’s government.
Justice Muneeb Akhtar delivered the reserved verdict on February 15.
It’s worth noting that after their petitions were turned down by the Lahore High Court, the petitioners approached the Supreme Court in 2016.
