In Karachi, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his views during his appearance in the accountability court, stating that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is a problem that we created ourselves.
He believes NAB has, in fact, portrayed politicians as virtuous and righteous. He mentioned that he is hesitant to participate in elections under these circumstances but would consider doing so if Nawaz Sharif calls him, though he will not involve himself in party matters.
Abbasi highlighted that it has been four years, and it is still unclear what the alleged crime is in his case. He criticized NAB, emphasizing that it was established to hold politicians accountable, but few politicians have been convicted through the court system. Many individuals remain incarcerated for extended periods, only for their cases to ultimately reveal no wrongdoing. Abbasi asserted that NAB was created to influence the political landscape and cited a nine-year-long initial case within NAB.
He stressed the importance of political dialogue and cooperation among parties to address the country’s challenges. He acknowledged the reality of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in power, stating that PTI is an established political force. Abbasi resigned from his party position concerning party matters but expressed his willingness to respond if called upon by Nawaz Sharif. The accountability court in Karachi held a hearing related to illegal recruitment in PSO, where Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other accused appeared. The court postponed further action to December 13.
