The 70th birthday of Pakistan’s first woman Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto is being celebrated today. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Nusrat Isfahani had a baby girl named Benazir after 2 years of their loving marriage.
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, being the daughter of her father Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, used to go on foreign trips with her father as a child. Benazir Bhutto met many world leaders at an early age.
She had also been a student leader. After the arrest of her father, former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, she entered the political arena in 1977.
Along with her mother, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, she resisted the dictatorship of General Zia and was imprisoned. In 1982, Benazir Bhutto was elected as the chairperson of the People’s Party.
He received a historic reception and toured the country. In 1987, Benazir Bhutto tied the knot with Asif Zardari and after a historic victory in the 1988 general elections, she was elected the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan.
When the government of Mrs. Benazir Bhutto was dismissed by President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, she again entered the field of struggle, for the second time she was again elected as Prime Minister in 1993, but she was dismissed again in 1996.
When Benazir Bhutto returned home on October 18, 2007 after her exile, she was once again given a historic welcome at Karachi Airport, then her convoy was targeted at Karsaz in which more than 250 people were martyred.
