In the past half-year, around 450,000 citizens of Pakistan departed the country, seeking opportunities abroad for employment. According to recent statistics from the Pakistani government, during the initial six months of 2023, this significant number of individuals chose to relocate overseas.
As reported by a Gulf newspaper, referencing data from the Immigration Bureau, this migration can be attributed to factors such as escalating inflation, inadequate wages, and various other motives. Among those who made the decision to move abroad, various professionals were identified, including doctors, engineers, IT specialists, bank managers, salespersons, and general laborers, all in pursuit of improved career prospects and a brighter future. A notable portion of these individuals opted to settle in Saudi Arabia, making it the primary destination.
Following Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates secured the second spot as a favored destination, with Qatar coming in third, Oman in fourth, and Malaysia in fifth. The statistics revealed that more than 35,000 individuals chose to relocate to Qatar, while over 34,000 Pakistanis headed to Oman. Moreover, around 8,000 individuals sought employment opportunities in Bahrain, and more than 16,000 Pakistanis embarked on their employment journey to Malaysia.
Among the cohort of educated Pakistanis seeking opportunities abroad, approximately 5,000 were engineers, nearly 24,000 held managerial positions across various industries, and around 2,000 were doctors, all contributing to the significant wave of emigration for the pursuit of a better livelihood.
